In the school I teach there has been an onslaught of detentions recently for various reasons. I constantly have students in ISS or have after school detentions, and I started wondering why. The students didn't seem much different than previous years, and there hasn't been a major disturbance in our school that resulting in "aftermath". After doing a little digging, I found out that the large majority of the after school detentions are for missing or late homework. Not just for Freshman, but for Juniors and Seniors as well. These "behavior" problems are causing a lot of scheduling conflicts with coaches, the dean of students, and detention supervisors. I would simply like to get your perspective on these types of detentions. Please take the following survey and let me know what you think.
